Michael Jordan: The Richest Athlete Of All Time

Jordan mainly made most of his money through
endorsements and investment.

He is associated with various brands such as Nike, Gatorade, and Upper Deck.

However, most of his income comes from his partnership with Nike and their Jordan brand. Having started off with a base pay of $500,000 during his rookie year, Michael Jordan is estimated to earn $150 million dollars through royalties from Nike in 2021.

His Jordan brand is evergreen and still continues to grow. Partnerships with Travis Scott and other famous entities only increase the value of the brand.

He is also the owner of Charlotte Hornets with an
estimated 90% ownership after he took majority control of the team in 2010 during a deal valued at $175 million that was largely funded with debt.

His investment paid off as the Charlotte Hornets saw a year-over-year 20 percent increase in value in the 2018-19 season under the ownership of Michael Jordan.

After Star Footballer Messi signed for the French Club Paris Saint German in 2021, Michael Jordan apparently earned $6 million dollars due to the shirt sales.

He also has investments and other sources of income as follows:

  • Sportsradar: A Switzerland based sports data provider
  • Muzik: A headphone brand
  • Gigster: A marketplace for freelance tech talent
  • aXiomatic: which is the parent company of esports squad
  • Team Liquid, recently valued at $320 million.
  • Cincoro: a premium tequila brand. The most expensive bottle within the line, Extra Añejeo, retails for $1,600.

Marlins for $1.2 billion in 2017.

and owns 4% of the team while Jordan owns 1%.
