A local boat in Niger state carrying about 100 people, including women and children capsized midway into the journey at about 6:00pm, on Saturday, May 8.
This led to the death of 30 people.
The boat reportedly capsized due to a heavy windstorm due to the rain that fell on Saturday evening may 8.
A rescue operation began immediately and 30 bodies were recoverd so far. The local divers are still in search of the remaining bodies.
Thirty bodies have been recovered while 65 persons were rescued by local divers.
Some of the victims were returnees who had earlier fled their homes with their children due to bandits attack.
