Jordan Henderson has been awarded the football player of the year award by the football writers association . The Liverpool captain was shortlisted with the likes of Kevin de Bruyne, Trent Alexander-Arnold , Danny ings, Sadio Mane and Marcus Rashford. Henderson led Liverpool to their first title in 30 years and also spearheaded the #playerstogether initiative during the Coronavirus lockdown where the players worked together with NHS charities to help raise money for those fighting for us on the NHS frontline.
The Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year is an annual award given to the player who is adjudged to have been the best of the season in English football. The award has been presented since the 1947–48 season, with the inaugural winner being Blackpool winger Stanley Matthews. The latest winner of the award as of 2018–19 is Raheem Sterling of Manchester City.
